For now, I hope you’re well on your way to enjoying a beautiful and creative weekend, that may or may not include, a frothy cup of joe! It’s been quite an amazing couple of years and I promise to keep things exciting as we move into the future together. What makes me happiest is that so many of you have been here from the very beginning of this journey. This is also the month when both this blog and my own painting habit officially turn 2 years old. I’ve been slowly brimming with ideas for new things that I’d like to do with Doodlewash and yes, there’s definitely the amazing return of World Watercolor Month coming in July! So, mark your calendars for a painting extravaganza! Well, a fun let’s-really-go-for-it and paint 31 watercolors challenge, at least. It’s been a busy week and I’m happy to take a few moments to relax. Those of you who know me by now know that I’m not drinking coffee at the moment, but enjoying a lovely glass of wine. The kind still served plain, but with the look of a cola and an oddly watered down coffee flavor. The only thing I like less is very weak coffee. I tried it once, long enough to learn that his habit wasn’t the one that would be inheriting. It looked and tasted more like a liquid caramel.
When my dad was alive, he would always add lots of sugar and cream, so the end result was a bright yellow-beige that lost all resemblance to coffee. This was a habit picked up from my mother who enjoyed it the same way and still does. I prefer it coal-black without anything extra to kill the buzz. In truth though, I love coffee and it really doesn’t matter what the temperature is for me to indulge in a bit of caffeine. It will actually be far too warm for a cappuccino finally and that’s a wonderful change. It’s the weekend again and I’m thrilled to have a little break and enjoy the apparently perfect weather the people who know are promising. Another, more likely theory, is that coffee was quite a common drink and consumed by the ordinary “average joe.” Either way, it’s a weird phrase that I never really use except to make myself giggle while creating the title of a blog post. There’s an elaborate story that the 1914 Secretary of the Navy, Josephus Daniels banned alcohol, which forced guys to drink the next strongest drink available and thus name the cup of coffee after Joe. Coffee is also sometimes referred to as a “cup of joe” which is an equally odd phrase so the two seemed to fit together well. So we have this little 3 color doodlewash. Or, powering through the end of the week, I may have just had coffee on the brain. Focusing on just the food-related meaning, I immediately though of a cappuccino. Frothing at the mouth is something one does when they are excited, angry, or are unfortunate enough to have contracted rabies or the even more unfortunate victim of a zombie bite. So today’s prompt of “frothy” is one of those words that isn’t particularly pleasant.
